Prayer Flags at the Oceanside Museum of Art

The Oceanside Museum of Art is hanging hundreds of Prayer Flags from across the world in concurrence with the Quilt National event.  Since I just discovered that the museum is still accepting submissions, and since the museum is a stone's throw away from my home, I am going to deliver the flags that appear in this posting.  If they require only one, I hope that the museum will make that choice for me.

   Balance
I pray for balance, for a life
in balance is a life at peace.

Honor the Day
I pray for each day to be
honored, for it cannot be lived
over again.

  Hope
I pray for hope because hope
makes all things possible.

  Growth
I pray for growth, for where
there is growth there is life.

 Peace
I pray for peace that will build
a safe planet for those who
come after us.

   Commitment:
   Taking the First Step
I pray for commitment to take
the first step toward any
goal.  The rest of the journey
will fall into place.

Joy
I pray for joy in the world, for
where there is joy there is no
place for discord.

Now, it's back to working on "Out of the Ashes--Beyond Boro".

    1. Mia, In answer to your question, ever since I first learned about The Prayer Flag Project from Jane LaFazio's blog, I've been making flags. However, it wasn't until I discovered how to add the project gadget to my blog yesterday that I actually participated in the group project. You'll enjoy these great little works of art when we visit the exhibit. They come from all over the world.

    1. I'm glad you like them Susan. It has been wonderful to see how many people have jumped in to offer their support by participating in Melanie Testa's project.

    2. Susan, I thought your comment had to do with the Breast Pockets. So sorry for this mistake. The Prayer Flag project is another grand one and I've been honored to participate.

  4. If the Oceanside Museum of Art allows photographs to be taken, when I visit Quilt National that will be exhibited concurrently with the Prayer Flag Project, I will take pictures and post them here on my blog. In this topsy turvy world any prayer for goodness and healing and love has to have an impact, even if only for those making the flags. Thank you for your kind comment. These 5"x8" with 3" fold backs for hanging can go together in a flash or can be as detailed as one would like. It will be nice for the women in your group to participate. Many lives have been touched by this project.

A New Series is Born

While experimenting with the use of household items as printing tools, two panels emerged, one that used the lid of a spray can and the other that used kitchen hand utensils and folded cardboard. These were intended only as audition pieces; however, after they lay a couple of weeks on the work table, the concept of pulling the panels together with a figure emerged, and that was the beginning a new series with a signature silhouetted figure and circles. Now my sketchbook runneth over with new ideas.
